Welcome to Randy's Hacks!
Thank you for visiting Randy's Hacks. I tried to put together information, tools and web links I found helpful and make them available to anyone who might find them useful. I hope you will find something of interest to you. The major topics of interest I have been working on are Construction and Computer Programming
Construction has a category named Lessons which has articles about different aspects of construction where I saw people having the most difficulty understanding . It also has a category named Tools where I created a few html based application to calculate measurements for cutting rafters when building roofs.
Computer Programming offers information on data compression and several projects I worked on to help put the graphics programs I use to better use. The category Everything else is a catch all section for, like it says, everything else.
Theoretical Compression of Random Data
Using a spreadsheet I calculated the cost of a unique encoding and the numbers suggest that random data can be theoretically compressed. I say theoretically because reality doesn’t always do things by the numbers. Reading data using an arithmetic encoder with probabilities other than a power two usually reads slightly less bits on average than the calculated number of bits and you can’t actually read or write part of a bit.
Welcome to FaceEditor
Hello. Welcome to my program. FaceEditor was designed to edit and create regions identifying people for Picasa and Windows Live Photo Gallery. It was designed to make it as simple as possible to create, resize, move and name face regions. FaceEditor adds the ability to resize and reposition the face regions created by Picasa or Windows Live Photo Gallery.
Name Tags In Slideshow
Picasa is great for organizing and finding pictures using name tags. The name tags are not much use outside Picasa so I tried to find different ways to make them available. I have created a Picasa template for exporting images to a HTML web page. Using this template with a small external program, Picasa will produce a web page slideshow that can be viewed in most web browsers. The images are displayed with their caption and a list of people named in the image.
